CSK won all five of these matches. That alone tells you how difficult it is to chase down a CSK 200-plus total in IPL.

Now, let’s get into each innings.

1. 246/5 vs Rajasthan Royals, Chennai (3 April 2010)

This is the highest score by CSK in IPL, and it still sits at the top after 16 years.

What Happened

Murli Vijay
Source: The Times of India

Murali Vijay walked in and absolutely destroyed the Rajasthan Royals bowling. He scored 127 off just 56 balls.

His innings included 11 sixes and 8 fours. That is 98 runs in boundaries alone.

The Vijay-Morkel Partnership

Albie Morkel joined Vijay and smashed 62 off 34 balls. Together, they added 152 runs for the third wicket.

That was the highest partnership in the tournament at the time.

CSK plundered 155 runs in the last 10 overs. Just think about that for a second.

The Chase

Rajasthan did not go down quietly. Naman Ojha scored an unbeaten 94 off 55 balls, and Shane Watson hammered 60 off 25.

The match produced 469 runs in 40 overs, which was the highest aggregate in IPL history at the time.

Still, Doug Bollinger’s incredible figures of 2/15 in four overs kept CSK in control. His economy of 3.75 in a match where everyone else was being carted around was nothing short of heroic.

CSK won by 23 runs.

Fun fact: Vijay scored 52% of his team’s runs that day. The rest of the batting lineup was basically decorative.

2. 240/5 vs Kings XI Punjab, Mohali (19 April 2008)

This was the second-highest CSK score in IPL, and it came in the very first IPL season. Talk about setting the bar high from day one.

What Happened

Mike Hussey

Michael Hussey played one of the finest innings in IPL history. He scored an unbeaten 116 off 54 balls with 9 sixes and 8 fours.

This was CSK’s first-ever IPL match. And Hussey decided to announce himself with a century.

The Assault

Hussey reached his century off just 50 balls. He went after everyone, from Brett Lee to Sreesanth to James Hopes.

Suresh Raina chipped in with a quick 32 off 13 balls, adding urgency in the middle overs.

How Punjab Responded

James Hopes hammered 71 off 33 balls and Kumar Sangakkara scored a quick fifty in reply. Punjab reached 207/4.

But 240 was always going to be too much, and CSK won by 33 runs.

What made this even more remarkable? It was the second match in IPL history. The league was literally two days old.

3. 235/4 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Kolkata (23 April 2023)

This CSK highest total in IPL 2023 came at Eden Gardens. It was the highest-ever IPL score at that venue.

Devon Conway (56 off 40 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave CSK a strong start with a 73-run opening partnership.

But the real carnage came from Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane.

The Dube-Rahane Show

Dube smashed 50 off just 21 balls. Rahane, usually known for his elegance, went full beast mode and scored an unbeaten 71 off 29 balls.

Together, they added 85 runs in only 31 balls. KKR’s bowlers looked like they wanted to be anywhere else.

CSK hit 18 sixes in the innings. That is a lot of leather leaving the ground.

KKR’s Chase

Jason Roy (61 off 26) and Rinku Singh (53* off 33) showed some fight. But KKR managed only 186/8 and lost by 49 runs.

This was CSK’s title-winning year. And this innings showed exactly why.

4. 230/5 vs Gujarat Titans, Ahmedabad (25 May 2025)

CSK’s highest score in IPL 2025 came in what turned out to be the final match of their season.

What Happened

Dewald Brevis

It was a batting-friendly surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium. CSK made full use of it.

Devon Conway top-scored with 52, while Ayush Mhatre got things moving early with 34 off 17 balls. The big hitter of the day was Dewald Brevis, who smashed 57 off just 23 balls.

The Collapse That Followed

Gujarat Titans were bowled out for just 147 in 18.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja picked up key wickets.

CSK won by 83 runs. That was their largest victory margin of the entire 2025 season.

And in a fitting moment, MS Dhoni took the final catch of the match. If you are a CSK fan, you already know why that matters.

This match also proved that CSK’s next generation of batters can deliver on big stages.

5. 226/6 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Bengaluru (17 April 2023)

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is famous for high scores. And CSK added another big one to the list in IPL 2023.

What Happened

Devon Conway

Devon Conway led the charge with 83 off 45 balls. He took full advantage of the short boundaries and quick outfield at Chinnaswamy.

Shivam Dube added 52 off 27 balls. Ajinkya Rahane chipped in with 37 off 20 at the top.

Multiple batters contributing meant CSK never lost momentum.

RCB’s Response

Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36) and Faf du Plessis (62 off 33) made it a contest. RCB reached 218/8 but fell short by 8 runs.

That was about as close as you can get when chasing 227.

Two of CSK’s top five highest scores came in the same season (2023). That is how dominant their batting was during their fifth title run.

Players Behind CSK’s Biggest IPL Totals

Some players show up again and again in these big CSK scores. Here is a quick look at the standout individual performers.

Devon Conway features in three of the top five. That is a remarkable contribution from a player who joined CSK relatively late in the franchise’s timeline.

Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey hold the top two individual scores in CSK IPL history. Both scored centuries in the matches that produced CSK’s two biggest totals.

Can CSK Break Their Own Record in IPL 2026?

IPL 2026 kicks off on 28 March 2026. CSK will play their first match against Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk on 30 March.

Ruturaj Gaikwad continues as captain. Stephen Fleming remains head coach.

With young talent like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis already contributing to big totals, and experienced names still in the squad, the batting firepower is there.

The 246/5 record has survived since 2010. But with how T20 batting has evolved, do not be surprised if it falls sooner rather than later.
